United Siyafunda continues to tackle the digital divide by strengthening teacher training and robotics innovation in our schools. What began a year ago as a foundational initiative at Kaalfontein Primary School with just 10 educators has grown into a transformative program, with 30 teachers now actively participating in coding and robotics workshops in Johannesburg.
Through United Siyafunda’s support, educators are being equipped with the essential skills to integrate 21st-century technology into their classrooms, effectively bridging the digital divide for their learners. Each participant has successfully earned their MICT SETA-aligned certificates and completed training in the CAPS Coding and Robotics curriculum, ensuring full alignment with national Department of Basic Education standards.
Following six months of intensive development, two of our dedicated Foundation Phase educators were selected for District-level training offered by the Department. Their journey culminated in an invitation to join the prestigious Coding and Robotics program at the University of Johannesburg, a powerful testament to the success of our teacher development model.
By empowering our teachers with these critical competencies, we are ensuring that the next generation of students in South Africa has the tools to thrive in a digital-first world.
